Here’s how to stop an accident before you even get in the car

-Put the cell phone down. 

Turn it off if the sound of a text alert or call will tempt you to check it.  This seems like an obvious one, but according to the Official US Government Website for Distracted Driving, approximately 660,000 drivers are using cell phones or manipulating electronic devices while driving at ANY given daylight moment in America.

-Don’t eat or drink while driving.  

It’s tempting to swing by a drive-thru and hop back on the road to make good time on your trip. But think about the risks involved–fiddling with wrappers, finding condiment packages, and dealing with the mess made are all distractions that take your eyes off the road.  Think about whether shaving that extra hour off your trip is worth cutting your life or the lives of others short.

-Clean up & fuel up.

Make sure your windshield is clean, oil changed, and vehicle generally maintained BEFORE you start your travels! Seeing your check engine light switch on or struggling with low visibility due to windshield grime is an avoidable distraction–so avoid it.

Before you know it, we’ll be smack dab in the middle of road trip season. For many, a long summer drive sounds like a thrilling adventure. But for those prone to car sickness, a road trip can turn into a nightmare. Here are a few tips for avoiding that dizzy, nauseous feeling:

–Sit in the front seat (or maybe do the driving for a little while)

–Crack a window (fresh air helps some avoid nausea)

–Close your eyes (if you can’t see anything, you won’t get motion sickness)

–Avoid focusing your eyes on one particular thing (like a card game or a book)

How to Get a Successful Driver’s License Photo

Once you are old enough to get your driver’s license photo taken, *cough* McLovin *cough,* the preparation is essential. Take a look at these tips to take the best photo ever!

1. Do not wear white, it tends to make people look sickly under the lighting at the DMV.
2.  Avoid wearing t- shirts with slogans, plain shirts with soft colors such as blue, green and pink tend to be the best.
3.  If you are getting your photo taken during allergy season or if you have a cold, use eye drops and make sure your eyes wide open.
4. Keep your hair neat and normal, today is not the day to try out a fancy hair do or new hair product.
5.  Ladies, know how to wear your makeup. Too much eye shadow tends to make your eyes disappear and too little makes you look like a zombie. Practice makes perfect!
6.  Like we said before, practice makes perfect! It may seem silly to practice smiling in the mirror but it can only benefit you in the end.
7.  Be on time for your appointment and stay patient. DMV’s are notoriously slow but the wait will be worth a great picture!
   
   
   

The 2014 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award goes to Nissan

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) gave the award to Nissan as a way to congratulate the company for pushing for energy efficiency at its United States plants.   This award is offered to companies, businesses or organizations that are constantly striving to up the energy efficiency of their operations, and Nissan has now won this award for the third time in a row.

“We saved enough energy to power more than 700 homes for a year, offset the greenhouse gas emissions of nearly 2,800 tons of landfill waste or better yet, to drive the all-electric Nissan LEAF around the earth more than 40,000 times,” John Martin, Nissan's senior vice president, said.    Nissan says that it is just doing its part to become more environmentally friendly by reducing energy loss.  They inspected the tubing in the compressed air system in its manufacturing facilities across the United States and fixed  nearly all leaks detected.

They claim that as a result, it conserved over 20% of the pressurized air escaping through leaks.  They saved 11,300 megawatt hours of energy.
 
Commenting on the company's efforts to constantly improve on its ecological footprint and help others do the same, John Martin said, “With major manufacturing operations in the Southeast and multiple R&D, design, testing and distribution facilities across the country, we recognize the importance of being environmental stewards within the community.”

“It's more than just a sustainability strategy; it makes good business sense for Nissan—now and for the road ahead,” Nissan's senior vice president went on to argue.
